MCM-1350 and Kohler

I have a SLC 5/03 with an MCM-1350. Both ports are Modbus Masters. Port 1 is communicating fine with a Modbus device. Port 2 is connected rs-485 to a Kohler Decision Maker 550. We can not establish communication with this device. I have tried different baud rates, parity and stop bit settings. Kohler is basically giving me the run around - no one there has experience connecting Modbus. Any ideas?

RE:MCM-1350 and Kohler

A few things to check...

Be sure you set our module jumper for RS-485 mode and use our DB9 to screw terminal adapter to connect your two-wire RS-485 cable to our module. This adapter has DB9 pins 7 & 8 jumpered, as required for our module to communicate.

Also, you'll need to create commands in the 3150-MCM ladder to poll the Kohler for data. To create these commands, you'll need a Slave ID # from the controller configuration and a Modbus data map from Kohler. According to their website, a document called, "TP-6113, Modbus Communications Protocol Operations Manual for Decision Maker 550", should give you information on the unit's Modbus interface. So far, we have been unsuccessful in obtaining a copy of this manual

You might also try reversing the two RS-485 leads. Sometimes, this helps.

If you can get Kohler to supply their document, you could send it, along with a copy of your ladder program to Prosoft Technical Support for further assistance. Please send your e-mail to: support@psft.com
