MVI56-MCM to work as MVI56-MCMR

Hey everyone,

I am currently in possession of a few MVI56-MCM ControlLogix cards that I am attempting to integrate into an existing system. In the existing system, the card is to be located in a remote rack, and the existing code is similar to the sample code for the MVI56-MCMR. The configuration information is to be loaded from the Compact Flash port. After looking at the documentation on this website, I believe the cards I should be useing at this facility are infact MCMR's, and not MCM's, however there are a few MCM cards in use that are reading configuration from CF, and are being used with code similar to that of the MCMR so I know it is possible to do this.

I have a test bench setup where I have been attempting to get the MCM card to load it's configuration from CF, and to work with the sample code for the MCMR but have so far been unsuccessfull. My question is, what is it that I have to do to get the MCM to act as an MCMR? Is firmware flashing involved to activate the compact flash port? Is there some minor parameter, or jumper I have neglected to set?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can be reached at: Mark.Brilliant@ch2m.com.

Thanks, Mark.

RE:MVI56-MCM to work as MVI56-MCMR

Sorry; but you are mistaken. The MVI56-MCM and MVI56-MCMR modules are not interchangable and do not use each other's ladder logic. The MVI56-MCM has its own ladder that provides configuration information via controller tags that do not exist in the MCMR ladder. The MCM does not have a Compact Flash card installed; only the MCMRs do.
The MCMR has less tags and more ladder to do special functions and gets all of it's configuration information from the Compact Flash card installed in it.

If you have modules labeled as MVI56MCMs that have a Compact Flash card installed, they have probably been re-flashed to be MCMRs instead of MCMs. It is possible to do that; and that would be the only way to get the MCM (after reflashing to MCMR) to use MCMR ladder and read its configuration from the CF card. Real MCMs cannot use MCMR ladder or read configuration from the CF card; their firmware will not allow it.
