RLX-IH Master Auxilliary Antenna

We have an existing installation with a single Master and single Repeater station approx 800m apart with Yagi antennas installed at both ends.

We would like to add a third radio that is positioned on the other side of the Master with respect to the existing repeater. ie The Yagi on the master is pointing in entirely the wrong direction.

Is it feasible to add another Yagi antenna on to the auxilliary antenna port of the Master that points towards our third station?

Repeaters can be configured with dual antennae, Master radios may not. The tranmission distance is relatively short. Why not use an omni antenna on the Master?

RE:RLX-IH Master Auxilliary Antenna

Thank you, I had suspected the Master could not be used in this way. Using an omnidirectional antenna is certainly an option.

I did not mention that the existing repeater is on a mobile machine moving up and down a 400m track. Naturally it has a line of sight link to the Master but there are stockpiles of Coal and Iron Ore in between. The stockpiles do not block the path but are not far below the direct line of sight. At present our worst case Rx level on the Repeater is -81dBm at one particularly bad location.

If we change the antenna and drop our rx level into the region where the data rate will drop will on one repeater, will this affect the data rate for other repeaters that have greater signal strength?

The data rate of the other repeater(s) will not be affected as long as it is not using the second repeater to get to the master.

Another suggestion for the master site would be to use a splitter and add a second yagi antenna. This will cause the signal to decrease approximately 3dB at the first site.

Thank you,

It sounds SO obvious now you mention it, but it hadn't crossed my mind. The 3db loss will be less than changing from Yagi to omnidirectional.
